About Laceyville, PA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Laceyville is a little country town in Pennsylvania. The early history of the town begins with the indigenous peoples – The Tuscarora Indians. They camped here en route to Six Nations in New York. But, it was not long until Caucasian settlers made their stamp on the area. In the late 18th century a colonel by the name of Thomas Hartley passed through during a battle with local Native Americans. The following year, John Sullivan used the same route.
"Skinners Eddy" or “Braintrim" colony was nearby, however. In a curious turn of events, spring thaws caused the river to flood this town and the residents were forced to go to higher ground. The majority of the displaced colonists rebuilt their households and farms, as well as businesses, in the town of Laceyville. Stores, tanneries, a school and a post office soon followed. But, Laceyville was not officially named a borough until 1903.
Today, there are churches, schools, diners and stores in abundance in the area. But, it still keeps its country, rustic feel. It has never grown too large to be a charming country town. Hunting and fishing are common recreational activities, and have been since the first settlers arrived. The nearby Lake Winola is one of the loveliest public lakes in the northeast. Because the weather is seasonal, the area is generally much quieter and peaceful for full-time residents in the cooler months. But, the general atmosphere is always of community and the locals and visitors enjoy one another.
